Here at Dr. Prasad's Lab, we work on Reoviridae which causes gastroenteritis or diarrhea in young children. Also, we work on Calicivirus and other viruses, which cause disease in animals and humans.
All children get rotavirus at some time. When children in countries with lower sanitation than the United States receive rotavirus, then it could be more serious. With a limited amount of clean water and medicine it can be a very dangerous disease. Without proper medicine and fluids-which can help resupply the body with lost nutrients-then millions of children die each year.
