Tutorial on the program AUTO, part on 'AUTOCENT'

If the file is compressed (suffix .Z), AUTO will decompress it first, and then hand it over to AUTOCENT.
If the optional coordinates for the position of the central are omitted, then AUTOCENT will compute the approximate location of the central beam using a center of gravity calculation performed on the entire pattern. Next, this position will be refined using local density gradients. When the optional coordinates were supplied, then AUTOCENT will immediately start with the refinement.

After the refinement converges the program writes the coordinates for the position of the central beam into the extra fields of the MRC-header of the file.
